Last week, BajaBoard was very honoured to receive awards for DRIVENxDESIGN, and the Victorian iAwards
Let's start with the National DRIVENxDESIGN Awards. As you might have seen in our last post, we were shortlisted in the SportsTech category. DRIVENxDESIGN s a global community of designers, thinkers, strategists and design lovers, and they run awards annually to recognise talent all across the world. The SportsTech Design Awards includes anything that is fun, cool, adrenaline filled, and hits the consumer market.
We're very excited to announce that we won a Gold Award for Design and we'll be heading up to Sydney for the awards ceremony. If you want to see our full project, including pics and videos, check our feature page on the DRIVENxDESIGN website.
Next, let's move to the state iAwards. These were tonnes of fun as no one knew the winners until they were called on stage at the ceremony. Last Thursday night KPMG hosted this awards function, which included an Innovation showcase displaying some of the competitors. At BajaBoard, we always enjoy the chance to show off the board and this showcase was no exception.
We headed up to the 37th floor with our board and was greeted with wolf whistles, bulging eyes, and people eager to jump on. There was lots of chatting and photos, then it was onto the ceremony. The Victorian iAwards included over a dozen winners and merit recipients in a range of categories. The winner of each category is chosen based on a rigorous set of criteria by around 40 judges. Merit recipients are those that come within 5% of the winners in their category - very close indeed!
The way the iAwards works is that winners are chosen from each state and then both the winners and merit recipients go on to compete for the National iAwards, and eventually the Asia Pacific competition. The iAwards are designed to "discover, recognise, and reward" state and national talent across technological innovations. Projects that won awards have "a positive impact on the community... and [the] awards honour the best and most innovation solutions".
BajaBoard is very proud to announce that we are the iAwards 2017 Merit Recipients for Consumer Markets. We came alongside Frank Green in this category for their SmartCups, and SmartBottles. We're very excited to go on to represent Victoria at the National iAwards.
Thanks to everyone who supported us on these journeys. To the Australian Government and Aus Industry for their ongoing support, to the Carlton Connect Initiative and the University of Melbourne for their advice and networks, to Sam and the team at GitHub for their fantastic testimony and support, to Ben and ZQ Racing for giving us the most comfory-est chairs ever to work on, to Tomcar and MtM our fellow players in the Australian Manufacturing Industry, and to all our fans, family, and friends who cheer us on.
We're looking forward to representing this awesome state of Victoria proudly at Nationals. For a full list of all the state winners, you can check out the iAwards website.
