Last week we were lucky enough to be at two fantastic expos - the National 4x4 Outdoors Show, and the Technology & Gadget Expo
Gathering the BajaBoard team, and calling on some extra staff, we hit both shows with excitement. Each expo was very different, both in scope, attendees, exhibitors, and yes location. On a rainy Melbourne day - or more like rain, hail, shine, wind, and cold - we were very happy we were indoors at each venue.
The 4x4 Show took place at the Melbourne Showgrounds. There were tonnes of great attractions including lots of all terrain vehicles, people giving tips on fishing, warm campfires, and a few celebrities in the outdoor and camping circuit. We had the chance to chat to lots of car and bike companies including Mazda, Yamaha, Holden, AJT, and more. Plus there were heaps of outdoor showcases like 4-wheelers doing jumps into a big air bag, Land Rover's driving experience, and of course, the monster trucks.
Our team was always swamped at the 4x4. Everyone wanted to know all about the BajaBoard that had graced the outdoors show for the first time. Many attendees wanted to add this to their all terrain off-road collection, while others simply wanted it for camping, and taking some of the dirt trails on their adventures. One thing is definitely clear, our board was definitely in the right spot for these off-road campers.
Contrary, TGE featured tonnes of new and upcoming tech; drift bikes, motion Virtual Reality (VR), Augment Reality (AR), cutting edge surround sound, and lots of robots. One of the coolest things at this expo was the ride/demo areas. Attendees had the chance to try out almost everything from electric skateboards (hey that's us!), to electric bikes, segways, and golf buggies. Just like we got to hang out with all the car companies at 4x4, we got to hang out with all the electric skateboard companies at TGE. It was great to all try each others' boards out and chat about how our industry is moving forward in a very positive way.
Some of our friends from the Electric Riders Melbourne club came down for a fun day out. It was heaps of fun chatting to one another, comparing boards, and talking about what is the next big thing for our industry. Jay Boston, who recently did a YouTube video from our Subaru Ride Day (see it here), did Q&As with all the electric skateboard teams. You can check out the BajaBoard Q&A here. One of the things we spoke about in the video is the need for regulation in the industry. I believe this is something that is already in motion so I encourage you all to keep your eyes out.
Yes, the expos were lots of fun, we gave out tonnes of stuff - so much so that we cleaned out all our stickers, and all our flyers. BajaBoard has some really exciting things coming up so definitely watch out on our social media channels. Yesterday we announced our winners of our ride day and we'll be putting up lots of great photos and videos. Oh and did we mention that we'll be doing more of these prize draws? Just sign up to our email list to keep in touch.
Finally, big thanks to all who came to see us, to Startup Victoria for hosting us at TGE, to That Startup Show for all the shout outs on stage, and to both teams at the 4x4 show and TGE for all their hard work at expo. We certainly want to come back next year!
Well, that's a wrap from us. If you want more on the expo, check out Sam's blog article as he goes through every type of electric skateboard at TGE and gives BajaBoard a fantastic review.
We'll see you all at the next expo and watch this space for heaps of exciting news!
